This is our favorite trail snack and we’re sharing it with you. We hope you love them as much as we do!
Hiking Gazette’s Roasted Nuts
1 cup raw, whole almonds
1 cup raw, whole walnuts
1 cup raw, whole cashews
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp dried, ground chiles (we used Guajillo) You can use chili powder, or for added heat, cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp sea salt
3 tsp brown sugar
2 T coconut oil
Here is how we did it:
Melt the oil in a skillet over medium low heat. Add the spices and the salt and sugar. Stir until well-mixed.
Add the nuts and stir to coat.
Set your kitchen timer for 5 minutes. Stir thoroughly every 5 minutes until the nuts start to brown. This should take about 20 – 25 minutes. Watch that they don’t burn!
Let them cool. Bag them up for hiking (if you have any left!).
